Angel In Disguise

One night when I was little,
Tears rolling down my face,
I prayed beside my bedpost
To the Almighty Grace.
I asked Him for a present
To show me that He cared.
To prove to me that love is good;
To help me not be scared.

He, smiling, said:
“Of course my dear,
I shall send you a surprise.
Maybe not today, but soon –
You’ll meet and Angel in disguise.

He will not have a halo,
Nor will he have wings.
But he will be your guardian,
And provide you many things.
He’ll teach you how to love,
And how to trust again.
He’ll open up your heart and soul,
He’ll be a real best friend.”

And just like that, He disappeared,
As quickly as he came.
Startled and a bit confused,
I shouted out his name:
“But what will he look like, God?
How will I know?
What if I don’t find him?
Please do not go!?

And just like that, He reappeared,
Stars sparkling in His eyes.
“My dear child, if I tell you now,
It won’t be a surprise!
But I do know your impatience
My darling young Diane.

So, I’ll give you a few clues
As to how your Angel boy will stand:
From the very first time you see him,
I guarantee you, you’ll know:
For his love is as warm as the sun,
And his face as white as now.
His smile like the sea at dawn,
Or a sky blue sunny day.

With clouds of wonder and the wind of strength,
They’ll help show you the way.”

"Keeper of the Stars" by Tracy Byrd

It was no accident me finding you
Someone had a hand in it
Long before we ever knew
Now I just can't believe you're in my life
Heaven's smilin' down on me
As I look at you tonight

I tip my hat to the keeper of the stars
He sure knew what he was doin'
When he joined these two hearts
I hold everything
When I hold you in my arms
I've got all I'll ever need
Thanks to the keeper of the stars
Soft moonlight on your face oh how you shine
It takes my breath away
Just to look into your eyes
I know I don't deserve a treasure like you
There really are no words
To show my gratitude

So I tip my hat to the keeper of the stars
He sure knew what he was doin'
When he joined these two hearts
I hold everything
When I hold you in my arms
I've got all I'll ever need
Thanks to the keeper of the stars

It was no accident me finding you
Someone had a hand in it
Long before we ever knew
