News that makes you go "HUH?"

What do they teach in priest school???? Who are we to trust?

I realize there are honest ministers and priest out there...but how do we know which ones to trust?

Sept 29, 2006
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Two Roman Catholic priests stole millions in offerings and gifts made to their parish over several years, authorities said Thursday.

Monsignor John Skehan, who was pastor at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church for four decades, was arrested Wednesday night on charges that he stole $8.6 million from the church, using the money to buy property and other assets, investigators said.

The 79-year-old priest was arrested at Palm Beach International Airport as he returned from Ireland and was being held on $400,000 bond on grand theft charges.

Was this money from all the poor people in the church?????

What has he done to get leniency? Trust? Priest?

NEW YORK Even the cardinal's appeal for leniency couldn't keep a New York City priest out of prison for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars.

After reminding Monsignor John Woolsey that people go to jail for lesser crimes, the judge handed him a sentence of one to four years.

Woolsey stole more than 800-thousand dollars from his parish, doctoring church records to try and cover it up. He spent the money on all sorts of things, including European vacations, fancy watches and country clubs.

Another 287-thousand dollars is missing from church coffers, and it's unclear what happened to it. DUH????

Cardinal Edward Egan was among those urging the judge to go easy on Woolsey, who pleaded guilty to grand larceny. He told the court he was "deeply, deeply sorry" for his conduct.

Was he living it up on some poor old widow woman's meager dollars that she needed this money for food?

What would Jesus Do?

If we can't trust the church, who can we trust?

September 20, 2006
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The sister of a pastor at a Southside church has been accused of stealing at least $20,000 in offerings, police said. Michelle Smith, 21, is charged with grand theft. Detectives said she stole cash from tithing envelopes at The Church of Jacksonville.

According to police reports, Smith took the money to make a down payment on a condominium and to buy other "nice things."

Let's Trust the cops - NOT

Serve and Protect

I realize that there are good cops out there. I know and respect some of them...but again how can we know who to trust? This wasn't necessarily Easton...jut a picture of a badge.

Sept 27, 2006
BOSTON - A 19-year old prostitute forced repeatedly into having sex with a Boston policeman said she feared the abuse would never stop -- until she stole his badge. When the officer, Michael LoPriore, telephoned her to get it back, the FBI was tuning in to their conversation, the 19-year-old’s lawyer, John Swomley, said on Wednesday.

LoPriore, 37, was charged in federal court on Tuesday with depriving the woman of her rights by using his position as a police officer to force her to perform sex in his car in September 2004.

Under a plea agreement, the 12-year veteran of Boston’s police force will plead guilty, resign and never seek another job as a police officer in Massachusetts. What about in another state? Prosecutors are recommending that he serve a year in prison.

Swomley said LoPriore had stopped the teenager in a downtown red-light district known as the “Combat Zone” while he was off duty and in his personal car. After showing her his badge, he ordered her into the car and drove to several locations where he forced her to perform oral sex, he added.

Who is liable for causing others harm? Another one of our justice system at work?
"I shouldn't even be doing this," said Judge Gary F. McKinley in a Kenton, Ohio, courtroom in August. "I'm cutting you somewhat of a break," he told two star athletes of Kenton High who had just been convicted of vehicular vandalism in a prank that caused two men serious, life-long disabilities. The kids' sentence: 60 days in juvenile detention (plus community service), but only after football season. (The families of the victims were appalled, especially the family of the one who was brain-damaged.) [Columbus Dispatch, 8-16-06]

Poetic Justice?

Tammie Lee Doss, 43, and two friends were charged with unlawful imprisonment in September in Athens, Ala., when Doss held her brother Randy at gunpoint and prayed for him. According to police, Tammie had confronted Randy, even firing a shot near his head to keep his attention, and urged him to redress his childhood mistreatment of her. Poetic Justice?

The guy in the Ronald Reagan mask who robbed a Bank of America in San Diego in August got away, but all his money was dye-stained, in a caper that went wrong from the start. According to police, the mask covered his eyes; he wore a cape that tangled with his gun, causing him to drop it; his getaway car got blocked in by a delivery truck; he rammed the truck to get away, provoking an argument with the driver; the dye pack exploded; and the mask with DNA and gun got left behind.

 DUH?

Twice in a week in August, gangs (or maybe the same gang) of bank robbers in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia, tried to haul away an ATM. In the first, they mistakenly yanked loose a check-depositing machine instead of the ATM, and in the second, their excavator's digging arm got stuck in the bank's ceiling. INCEST

Rich people sometimes get away with anything?

September 28, 2006 -- She was Daddy's little girl - and also his trophy wife.

The rarified world of hedge-fund millionaires was stunned yesterday by the bizarre saga of 67-year-old Bruce McMahan and his long-lost love child, Linda - who were reunited after two decades, allegedly carried on a steamy off-and-on affair for seven years and then got "married" in a hush-hush ceremony in Westminster Abbey.   For years they had a father-daughter relationship. She was studying for a Ph.D. in psychology and he helped pay her tuition and set up a trust fund for her.

In 1998 - when she was 29 and single and he was 63 and married to his fourth wife - things suddenly changed.

She was living, at the time, in her dad's mansion, and one night he invited her into his bedroom, according to the legal documents, which were generated by five lawsuits stemming from their alleged affair, "marriage" and subsequent break-up.  The two had a hot and heavy make-out session on her bed, the newspaper said.

So began a sordid affair that reached its peak in June 2004, when the two went to London for their storybook "wedding."

Broke up and then again remarried.

In court papers, McMahan has insisted he never had a sexual relationship with Linda and questioned whether she was really his daughter.

This despite the results of the DNA tests, which showed a 99.7 percent probability that he was her father, documents said.

The papers also say his DNA and hers were on a vibrator that Schutt found in her suitcase.

McMahan's hedge fund is now worth $2 billion - and he's one of the wealthiest men in the country.

Legal documents say that from 2004, when they were "wed," to 2005, when she ended their alleged affair, McMahan gave her gifts worth about $650,000.
In an affidavit, she wrote, "This was a difficult, if not unbearable, time of my life, as I continued to be abused and subservient to McMahan's sexual demands while at the same time I had lost any semblance of my marriage with Sargent."

Who can we trust with our children????

September 27, 2006
A long-time teacher at a Huntington Station private school was arrested yesterday after dozens of images of child pornography were found on his home computer, authorities said.

Michael Kelly Reiner, 46, an educator for 18 years at the Long Island School for the Gifted, faces federal child pornography charges for possessing the 70 pictures and 42 videos, officials said. Reiner, of 82 Pengo Circle, East Meadow, also operated a Web site devoted to sadistic fantasies and cannibalism, prompting investigators to probe whether he has acted on his fantasies, the officials said.

Reiner, who taught fourth, fifth and sixth grades at the school for especially bright students, pleaded not guilty to child pornography charges at his arraignment yesterday in U.S. District Court in Central Islip.
At the time, according to court documents, the Canadian police said they found an estimated thousand images of young boys in "sexually provocative poses" that are not pornographic under U.S. law.

Trust another cop?

What was she thinking????

Serve and Protect

was a question on quite a few minds, as a Chicago Police officer appeared in court accused of trying to deposit a bogus $1 million check the officer allegedly claimed she'd received from Six Flags theme parks as part of a lawsuit settlement.

Tiffany M. Brown, 34, is charged with forgery and attempted theft by deception. Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Erin Antonietti told Coghlan that Brown had tried to deposit the check Aug. 31 at the Chicago Patrolman's Federal Credit Union in the 1300 block of West Washington.

Monique Bond, a Chicago Police spokeswoman, said Brown has been with the department since November 1999 and most recently with the Calumet District. She is on paid leave, Bond said.

Let's trust our dentist - NOT.  They put enough mercury in our mouths to condemn a whole lake.... now they kill kids... hum?

Five-year-old Diamond Brownridge died from a lack of oxygen caused by the anesthesia she received during her dental examination over the weekend, the Cook County medical examiner's office ruled Thursday.

Diamond died from anoxic encephalopathy, which refers to a lack of oxygen in the entire brain, usually resulting in brain damage. The condition can be caused by complications in anesthesia, according to medical dictionaries.

The medical examiner's office ruled the death an accident. The Southwest Side girl's family attorney, Tom Prindable, obtained a court order Tuesday to preserve Diamond's dental records and the equipment used in the exam. No lawsuit had been filed against Riba or the Little Angel dental office, 3915 W. 26th, as of Thursday evening.  WHY NOT????

Dentist safe????

Four years ago Santiago Arminana had three teeth pulled by a person he thought was a licensed dentist.

He says he wound up with bone and gum damage that another dentist says will cost up to $12,000 to repair. He complained to the state in April 2002, then learned the person who did the damage was not licensed.

"She was illegal. I was in shock," Arminana said.

He was more shocked when the state gave her a license six months later.

"The complaint was filed before this individual was licensed, that should be a red flag," said Jay Stewart with the BGA. “Did the investigative side ever talk to the licensing side?"

There was no comment from the Department of Professional Regulation, but two years later DPR did charge that the dentist extracted teeth and removed tissue without a license in Arminana’s case.

Now the state wants the license suspended that Arminana says should never have been given in the first place.

Let the doctor redo your penis?  NOT  - TRUST Doctors???

Chicago Sun-Times reported that Illinois recently moved to shut down Dr. Sheldon Burman’s clinic for adding length (up to a half-inch) and girth (up to 50 percent), but only after "dozens" of dissatisfied customers won lawsuits, describing themselves in variations of "shriveled up." Burman said he stands by every one of the "thousands" of procedures he’s done (by vacuum and stretching) since 1981.

Looks like  a lot of people hire thugs to handle business?

Moscow - The coach of Russian third division soccer side Metallurg Lipezk organized for three of his players to be beaten up by underworld thugs, local media reported on Thursday.

The subsequent attack saw the team captain, goalkeeper and a striker needing treatment in Lipezk's hospital, 350 kilometers south of Moscow, for serious injuries, including concussion.

The incident began when the coach and players each accused each other of having being "bought" after the team suffered two defeats in a row.

The upset coach then called the thugs to the training ground where one of them pulled a pistol and fired a rubber bullet at the arm of one of the players.

The coach has since been fired by the club management.

We all know some people would be tried in court at least three times!

Between tears and anger

How can these people live with themselves?

I found this web site with description of rape, murder and more of children
